Firstly we need to point out that we can’t provide you with formal legal advice, this is such a minefield of information which is always changing. The best source of information for employment law is www.acas.co.uk there are also companies out there that will provide you with a personal legal service for quite a reasonable annual fee.

We can however give you a few pointers;

An important piece of legislation you need to be aware is The Employment Equality (age) Regulations Act – Oct 2006.

It has changed the way we search and advertise jobs and ultimately the way we shortlist for you.

We don’t include date of birth on our CV’s as an unsuccessful candidate may infer that this information was used to discriminate against them. Avoid asking for a certain number of years experience, the new laws force us to focus on the skills abilities and qualifications required. Asking for 15 years experience is indirectly discriminating against younger workers.

You also need to avoid certain subject areas in interview to protect yourself; Sex, Marital status, Religion and Children .

When we advertise your roles for you we are fully trained to write adverts that exclude any discrimination direct or indirect.
